Since the board claims to be a home for REAL rock 'n' roll in Seattle, we should probably have a discussion of what exactly that is.
There's a whole bunch of sub-genres that have a lot of real RnR in them - garage punk, rockabilly, surf, power pop, stoner rock, mod, glam, psych... even a lot of so-called "grunge" is real rock 'n' roll (it's just that so much of it sucks). Any kind of punk/blues/soul hybrid counts too. Punk rock is real RnR,... hardcore on the other hand, I'm not so sure about.
There's a tendency to equate "real" RnR with primitivism, but that's too limiting. It doesn't have to be simple or dumb to be real, but it's got to have soul, it's got to make you want to shake your ass, it's got to sound authentic.
So what does the phrase "REAL rock 'n' roll" mean to you? I'll be interested to hear what people have to say on this subject.

Anything that has Backbeat to it! None of this downbeat Bump, Bumpa, Bump-Bumpa, or that Jugga,Jugga,Jugga Emo-schmeemo, screamo-core stuff. As Chuck Berry said, "Its gotta Backbeat you can use it, Any old way you choose it, It's gotta be Rock 'n'Roll Music, If ya wanna dance with me!" Amen Brother!
